My favourite early maths idea to come across Pinterest today - mud kitchen recipe cards!

Even if you don't have a mud kitchen in your garden, these recipe cards are a great excuse to go for a walk in nice weather and collect 'ingredients' (or you may have everything in your garden) and then all you need is a bowl and a spoon.  You can add serving dishes if you're feeling really brave.

For number recognition, make up your own cards for the child to use, like these pictured here:
